Delmace, at age 6

Well, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve written here – so I’m just going to do a quick update on how Delmace is doing, and tell you about our exciting summer plans…

Delmace just finished Kindergarten (today) in Boston Public Schools. He LOVES school, his friends, and his teachers.  He’s doing really well, and is excited about going to first grade.  Over the past 2 and a half years, he has done so many great things and had some wonderful experiences…  Delmace has played Challenger baseball for the past 3 springs, he’s played adapted soccer in the fall, he’s learned tennis & yoga through his after-school program, and he’s taken swimming lessons.  He participates in Chorus and Dance programs at his school, and has also taken drumming classes.  He is currently taking violin lessons through a program co-sponsored by Boston Symphony Orchestra.  He’s been on vacations to New Hampshire, Florida, and California – and loves to visit his grandparents in Connecticut.

Delmace had surgery this past winter – to correct his club feet, and to place hardware in his knees that will gradually (as he grows) pull his legs straighter.  He was a real trooper through the whole recovery period, and was able to return to school (with casts on both legs) after only 2 weeks!

Delmace’s adoption was finally (after what seemed like forever) finalized in October of 2011.  We were then able to get an amended birth certificate, a social security number, and, since he already had a Green Card (obtained last summer), we were finally able to get him a US Passport!

So, that brings us up to our really exciting summer plans…  In 4 days, Delmace and I are going to Haiti for 5 weeks!  It will be his first time back since he left, just 3 weeks after the earthquake…  We are staying at Wings of Hope, the home where Delmace used to live, and he is looking forward to seeing old friends and caretakers who he still talks about frequently.  During our trip, I will be using this blog as a place to post photos and short updates about our adventures.  So, be sure to check back next week for the first round of Haiti pics…

Happy summer everyone!
